Resurrection of the Body
As all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. -- 1 Corinthians 15:22
If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from
the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. -- 1 Corinthians 15:19-20. Apostles Creed:- ... I believe ...the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Nicene Creed:- `resurrection of the dead'. Such belief was essential for
Christians; not only for our hope of new life beyond death, but also because the Gospel was about the resurrection of Jesus.
1 Cor. 15:13-22.
Should we talk about these things today?
There are lessons to learn from census data. Catholic and evangelical churches grow [and the Uniting Church is supposed to
be `catholic, evangelical and reformed']: consider teaching with authority from scripture and tradition; devotions with belief
in the spiritual world and the hereafter; willingness to be different, even holy and pure; and unencumbered with worldly
power and success.
The great resurrection debate
At the time of Jesus the resurrection of the dead was a topic of great debate. Jesus took issue with Sadducees who did not
believe in the resurrection of the dead. Mark 12:26-27 .. he interpreted the story in Exodus in quite a new way. Resurrection
was not found in the Bible until the vary last part of the Old Testament of be written: see Daniel 12:1-2. [Also 2 Macc. 7:9,
23 etc. compare with Paul's experience 1 Cor. 15:32; and 2 Esdras 7:32, 37; 4:35, 40-43 in Apocrypha] So the Christian
hope inspired the kind of life they led: 1 Peter 1:3.
Immortality of the Soul and Resurrection of the Body
There is no natural immortality in the Biblical understanding of human personality. So a human being is thought of as fully
integrated personality; 1 Corinthians 15:44-45. Body can mean soul and soul can mean body: both are earthly. The holistic
view of human personality is seen when Jesus quoted You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your might. -- Deuteronomy 6:5. at Mark 12:29-30. By man also came resurrection. The body that
is raised is changed into a spiritual body, like the plant that grows from a seed, but that depends upon a positive action by
God. [1 Cor. 15:27-29; 35-49]

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
